Faculty
Grace Christian Academy has a devoted faculty dedicated to the success of our scholars.  Our teachers and educational assistants work closely with parents to provide an education based on the individual needs of each student. 


 
Head of School Pastor Kevin Wattles has been serving at Grace since 1996. Kevin holds a Liberal Arts Degree from Northwestern College (1992) and a Master of Divinity Degree from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary (1996). He is a Doctor of Ministry Candidate at Denver Seminary.
 
Kevin and his wife Jill have three children—Kortney, Josh and Jason, all of whom attended Grace Christian Academy. He enjoys all kinds of outdoor activities and is very much looking forward to the Washington Nationals going to the World Series......again!

7th - 8th Grade teacher Mr. Jacob Price was born and raised in Wausau, WI. He graduated from Martin Luther College with majors in Elementary Education and Secondary Vocal Music. Jacob enjoys watching and participating in sports and music, reading, and spending time with family and friends. He is excited to live in the DC area and share his passion for learning with his scholars!

5th - 6th Grade Teacher Mr. Matthew Redfield was born and raised in Watertown, Wisconsin. He met his wife Leigh on a blind date while attending Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota. They have six children. He began teaching 5th and 6th grade at Grace in 2006. In his free time Mr. Redfield likes to play card games, watch pro football games, camp, hike, bike, explore museums, and be artsy.

3rd-4th Grade Teacher Katelyn Vollmer joined the staff at Grace in 2017.  She is originally from San Antonio, Texas. Her scholars are her passion, but in her free time she likes to read, be outdoors, and play with her cat - Oliver.

1st - 2nd grade Teacher Lorna Satorius graduated from Dr. Martin Luther College with a degree in Elementary Education.  She is a mother of four, all of whom attended Grace.

Kindergarten Teacher Lydia Wilde grew up in various parts of Wisconsin and graduated from Martin Luther College in May 2021 with a double major in Elementary and Secondary Social Studies Education. She knew from a young age that she wanted to be a teacher, and is excited to help her students grow in knowledge and grace during her time with them. Besides teaching, Lydia loves reading, writing, and painting, all of which she enjoys doing with a cup of tea at her side. She plays piano and organ, and played French Horn and String Bass in the past.

Junior Kindergarten (age 4) Teacher Mikayla Botts grew up in Northern Virginia and graduated from Grace Christian Academy in 2012. Ms. Botts has served in a variety of roles here at the school for the past several years.  When she's not teaching, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends and reading.

Leigh Redfield is our Learning Specialist. Leigh graduation from Martin Luther College with a degree in education. Prior to moving to Virginia, she taught at Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School. Leigh and her husband Matt have six children. Leigh also fills many volunteer roles at our church congregation.

Penny Hoeting has served as the School Administrative Assistant and Director of Admissions at Grace Christian Academy since August 2010.  She provides office and administrative support for the faculty.  Penny manages the enrollment and tuition process for the Grace scholars.
 
Penny is a graduate of Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minnesota.  Prior to serving at GCA, Penny worked for over 19 years as a Network Representative for a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) and assisted in contracting doctors and hospitals in the National Capital area. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, and especially beach vacations to the Outerbanks, North Carolina, with her husband Dave.

Julie Crain serves as the school's Development Manager.  Her position involves obtaining third-party funding to help support the school's tuition assistance program. She organizes fundraising events such as the annual Gala and Truck & Toss.

Julie and husband Walter have lived in the neighborhood of Grace Christian Academy for nearly 30 years.
 Julie's daughter Allison attended GCAPrior to coming to GCA, Julie was employed by the National Geographic Society for 29 years. She enjoys playing tennis and golf, as well as hanging out with family, friends, and neighbors!
