School Culture

 School Culture

Grace Christian Academy (GCA) offers a relaxed and loving environment where our scholars are taught to celebrate the individual strengths of each member of the body of Christ. At GCA, scholars encourage one another daily.  GCA offers diversity not found in many private schools which helps our students learn tolerance and to accept and embrace differences. Our upper grade scholars mentor and encourage the lower grade classes.

Traditions and Annual Events

Basketball

Our upper grades have boys and girls basketball teams that compete with local private schools. The season usually culminates with a trip to one of our synod high schools where both teams participate in a co-ed tournament.

Field Day

Spring brings our annual Field Day with Divine Peace School in Largo, Maryland.  Scholars are divided into teams and compete in a variety of athletic activities. Field Day provides valuable team-building experiences and is a great chance to meet new friends while enjoying the outdoors.

Academic and Literacy Nights

Grace Christian Academy's Academic Nights are fun for the entire family. Each year alternates with events such as a traditional science fair, Night at the Wax Museum, Festival of Nations, and more. And our younger scholars and their families look forward to a fun-filled Literacy Night that features a different theme each year.

Spring Musical

Each May the scholars present their spring musical. Auditions and rehearsals all take place during the school day so every scholar has the opportunity to participate. The students assist with the creation of sets and costumes. Our school families thoroughly enjoy the production each year!

Field Trips

Our proximity to the Washington, DC  provides plenty of opportunities to discover the Nation's Capital. Our youngest scholars get a chance to see life on the farm (and grab a pumpkin!) at Great Country Farms in Bluemont, Virginia. Each of our upper grades participate in a semi-annual "Ultimate Field Trip." These overnight trips take them to Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown, Richmond, and the Outer Banks.

End of the Year Picnic

Each year our church pastors take on grill duty and the school year is celebrated with a whole-school picnic.  The scholars and their families enjoy a delicious meal outside, followed by a lot of fun and games.

The Scholastic Book Fair

Reading is encouraged in a variety of ways at Grace Christian Academy.  This has created a school full of readers, so our annual Book Fair is always a big deal.  Our multi-purpose room is stocked with hundreds of books and decorated according to each year's theme.  Each classroom is given an opportunity to shop the sale on their own, with hours also offered before and after school.  The Book Fair ends with a school-wide "read-in" celebration that takes place on our athletic field. Scholars take turns reading to each other, and our teachers read to small groups.  Snacks are served to make this a festive celebration of reading!
